Never Again...

Sat May 9, 2009, 3:22 PM

I will never step foot inside another hobby lobby for as long as I live.

I'm tired of their inconsistency with their art supplies... they'll carry a product ONE TIME then they'll NEVER have that same product again, or they'll have some other brand that is inferior to the original product. I have asked numerous times, if they can't keep a constancy with their art supplies allow the customers to special order, and they refuse to even do that.

I went in there looking for watercolor board... nothing... not even illustration board. I had to ask and the girl I spoke with looked at me like I was speaking to her in a foreign language. To top it all off, I tried to return something I only bought a month (or so) ago... and they tried to tell me it was 3 years old... I said no that's not right I bought it at the most a month and half ago... Granted I couldn't find the receipt, but to say it's 3 years old is just crazy, I even pointed out that it was marked cheaper than the others when I bought it. The manager took it back to compare it with the others and said what I had already told him, but refused to let me return it. So I told him "Fine, I will never shop in another Hobby Lobby" and left.

What really makes me mad about Hobby Lobby is that they choked out the ONLY REAL ART STORE in my area. So, Screw you Hobby Lobby... from now on I'll be ordering ALL of my supplies from Dick Blick.com.

If you've had similar problems, don't shop there anymore because to continue shopping there is only telling them that it's ok for them to continue providing substandard products and service.

You would love this country! Korea has the cheapest art supplies I've ever seen! Pre-stretched watercolor paper over a wood-backed frame, 19x24-ish size, not even 5 bucks! Paints, from quality European brands to local Korean stuff that pulls its weight. Brushes, papers, canvas, everything is so cheap here! When I return, I will be stocking up big-time and shipping it home.

Over here children use oil pastels, great ones, like crayons. They don't even know what crayola is!

Yeah, Michael's is just as bad, but they do have the illustration board I like.

I'm lucky to have a dick blick store because where my parent's live there is no where to buy matt board. At least hobby lobby has that.

yeah they are... =(

I wish our dickblick wasn't so far away. The art store they choked out of business was Fox Valley Art Supply, I had been going there since High School.

I'll just have to start planning ahead more often when I think I'm about to run out instead of waiting till I actually need the item... *sigh*

they might have the illustration board I like but I usually have to dig through a stack to find one that isn't scuffed up or dirty :(

yeah that sucks, for a long time Hobby Lobby and Michaels used to carry watercolor board, it used to come in a prewrapped pkg of 2, then... hobby lobby got the keen idea of unwrapping them and putting them for sale individually for the same price as the two, and now they don't have any at all. @_@ So I've been ordering my illustration board & watercolor board thru dickblick, I have yet to get any that were scuffed or dirty. Even though I have to cut it down to the sizes I use, I'm still paying less than I did thru Hobby Lobby or Michaels.

Ah, I don't think I ever use enough to buy in large packs online :( My matboard always came badly dented on the sides up when I had to order it.

have you tried ordering your mat board thru clearbags.com? I have yet to get any corners dented on any of my boards from there. from dickblick I only order about 2 sheets at a time, which will last me.

Ah, I used to order the foam board for back from them cause it saves me so much time cutting. But for matboard they don't have many colors and I need to cut odd sizes. I'd order more often but I wait until I'm out of everything cause UPS is a giant pain in the butt.

I thought the only place I saw strathmore 500 online had minimum of 10.
